Jazz was "imported" to Portugal by Luís Villas-Boas back in 1945 when he started the radio program Hot Clube de Portugal. The language adopted by local Portuguese musicians has been pivoting around the American tradition while at the same time receptively influenced by Brazilian music. Luís Villas-Boas believed that jazz was a contagious media.

And Pedro Ricardo made a contagious debut called Soprem Bons Ventos. Ricardo has been one of the more burgeoning musical artists from Portugal. Having established himself as a progressive DJ, in 2023 he brought to our ears an album fitting to no existing genre.

Conceived towards the end of the pandemic, this debut album is a swarm of actions. The title track draws from his techno dance floor palette, patching the few repetitive rhythms together with suspense and tensions. One can hear his Brazilian samba influence in the polyrhythmic A Marcha Que o Monte Parou. Half psychedelic, half new agey, Déhéba is an organic discotheque. Central to all the tracks is his drummings, driving a tropical vibe along from beginning to the end.

The English translation of the album name literally means "good winds blow". We stumble upon bad times, losing sight of the good fortunes that are so close to home. Then getting infatuated with all the joy and laughter, only to find out that goodbyes and heartbreaks are around the corner. This is a hopeful album. Things will pass. The pandemic officially ended in May 2023, but Ricardo's grooves and the passion of Luís Villas-Boas live on.
