We Jazz from Helsinki has been pivotal in promoting jazz music in a unique Nordic discourse (the other being ECM which many critics are regarding them as old guards of Nordic jazz). Music in both digital and physical formats, festivals and even literatures, We Jazz goes beyond just being a music label. They are also instrumental in assembling talents from all Nordic countries, and connecting with contemporaries in other continents.
Goran Kajfeš Tropiques, an all Swedish outfit, released three half-scripted half improvised compositions in their album "Tell Us". By no means these three long pieces follow the traditional jazz structure. All work off repeating melodies / chords as enticers. Goran Kajfeš then invites the listeners into a gravitational journey commonly orchestrated in post rock trajectory. These are not meant for Instagram airplay but more for circulation in a modern day kissa.
Unlike previous Goran Kajfeš Tropiques albums (released under Goran Kajfeš' own Headspins label), strings are added to create more layers, tension and harmony. In the track Prije I Posle, the bulk of the song's improvisation is provided from violinist Josefin Runsteen and cellist Leo Svensson Sander. This helps enrich the accessibility of the album, something We Jazz has been trying to accomplish via their multi-format dissemination of their own rendition of Nordic jazz.
